M ark Pleasanton of Creations In Wood is a self-taught Eastern Shore artist who has been blessed with incredible talent. Mark lives with his wife, Terry in Chance, Maryland on the beautiful Tangier Sound. Art is Mark's passion, and on weekends Terry and Mark, participate in local art shows. Mark can take a piece of Wood, Copper or Stainless Steel and turn it into the silhouette of one of God's creatures. He uses mostly salvaged and recycled materials that are resurrected and given new life. |

| Mark has attended some classes at the Ward Museum in Salisbury, Maryland. He has been carving for about 16 years. When working with wood, he uses the natural grain of the wood for unique character. Mark also does custom work for clients. He carves mostly fish and nautical pieces. | ||
| Recently, Mark has started working with Copper and Stainless Steel dragonflies, butterflies, fish, crabs and seahorses. Each piece is unique and one of a kind. No two are ever exactly alike. Mark is looking forward to the day that his art will be a full time endeavor. | ||
When Terry met Mark 16 years ago she was very impressed with his talent. He worked for a sign company and would build impressive old looking trunks from the crating lumber that signs were shipped in.
One weekend while riding around exploring the shore, we came across a man selling wooden fish on the side of the road. We bought one and as a challenge I told Mark “you can’t do anything like that”. He took the challenge and went to work in his shop. The first fish came off the bench not to long after that. He started making them for family gifts (his one brother is an avid fisherman).
After that we would go to the Ward World show in Ocean City, Maryland where we bought a pattern book on fish carving. Mark is blessed with natural talent as well as a mind for engineering things. He is now working in metal and creates his own jibs for molding the metal. So from a challenge 16 years ago we are now spending most weekends doing local craft shows.
